Out with the old and in with the new...

Coopertation with Claudia Sträter.

For my second week at school we had a special assignment. In the Netherlands there's a fashion company called Claudia Sträter (http://www.claudiastrater.com). They make elegant clothes for ladies between 30 and 60. In the summer they did a campaign that people were possible to bring back some of there old Sträter clothes and get a gift order in return.
Now we came in. Last year after there campaign was done we went to the Claudia Sträter headquarters and they gave us the opportunity to work on a project with them. From all of the clothes, they got back at the campaign, every student of my class could pick seven pieces.

The seven pieces I chose and the labels they made for us.

So for the project we had to make a whole new outfit only with the fabric from the seven recycled Claudia Sträter pieces. For Inspiration we could take anything.

When we were at the headquarters I got the feeling of the 80's. I don't know where it came from but i decided to take that as my inspiration. So I went looking in books and on the internet to 80's clothing. The main thing that is noticed was oversized, eclecticism and sportswear. So with that in my mind I got started.

After a whole week non-stop working on this project I came out by this oversized grandma coat and the little sport bikini. My vision is a young girl that decides to go to the gym and on her way she picks grandmothers coat for the cold. For me it was a challenge to do something out of the box and out of my style but still me. I really enjoyed this project, and working with Claudia Sträter.

My New Outfit: Everything is made from wool, acrylic or polyester.

I love bringing back the old times but in my modern way.
And the 80's were fabulous so...

Collecting Memories...

Did you miss me?...

As you noticed I didn't post anything for 2 weeks. Let me explain you why.

Every year my school has an introduction week for the new student with games, workshops and parties. It's a very nice week were you get to know everyone for the first time and learn a lot about some art branches. The workshops are given by teachers that work in the profession area.

The organisation divide every student in groups, where you are mixed with other department of the school, with that group you share a tent to sleep, do assignments and give presentation. This year I was team leader of one of these groups. I was really surprised to see so many inspiring and artistic people at one place.

Now I let you guys see some nice memories for my little work break.

Red rose (part of the teamleaders outfits), Thank you note form the direction, bracelet to know in with group you are (my group 10), New Look Heels (also part of my outfit), Name tag, Group picture with my darlings and a braided headband.

I really like memories especially the most stupid ones.
I really enjoyed my second introduction week and will never forget it.
Did you also had an introduction week of school?

With only two weeks to go before school starts, I'm almost done with my summer assignment. On that note I give you a little sneak peek of my work so far.

Color my World... (Dress Me #2)

Sometimes you must change the things you find.

As I said in my previous blogpost about my summer assignment there is on fabric that I've dyed myself.
Now I'll give you a look into that process.

I did this because sometimes you find a fabric that is totally what you want but in the wrong color.
Then you can do two things: search for an other one or you intervene.
And i like to intervene because that's me.

Step #1: Wash the fabric

A beige mixture of cotton and line

Step #2: Giving it a coloring bath

The fabric is immersed in a bath with textile painting (Dylon Antique Grey).

Step #3: Result

The fabric is now grey with a subtle spotted pattern of yellow, blue and magenta

The result was not exactly what i had in mind but I really like it.
Sometimes an accident can unpack well. The fabric is now a one of a kind and fits perfectly in my vision of the total outfit.

What do you think about the changes I did? Or do you have questions about the process?

Dress Me... #1

This summer we have an assignment for school. We have to make a totally styled outfit for ourself.
The outfit has to fashionable and reflect your personality.

So for my outfit i designed an outfit that is clean and tight, but because it is an outfit for myself, there has to be drama in it, so I assembled little details like a bright color, a dessin (print) and some jewels placed on the fabric.
Design sketch for the summer assignment for school

For my fabrics I looked around and picked fabrics that totally go with my idea and feeling that
I want to create.

From left to right: Fake leather, black cotton that they usually use for costume pants, navy blue satin silk, blue silk bulrush ribbon, black woven wool, silk organza and a mixture of cotton and line (that I colored in this grey with a little pattern).

I will keep you posted about the process in this segment (Dress me).

What do you guys think of my design?

                                                                                    Lots of love - M.
